Stepping out to meet the needs of Foster Children

Imagine life through the eyes of the child going through the transition to foster care.  You lose your parents and are sent to a group home; then, because of a change in state law, you have to relocate once again and are separated from your siblings and your school and local community.

This is the situation for many children in our state, and where LifeHouse is bridging the gap and changing the foster care model.  Yet, for all the vision in the world, there are resource needs that must be addressed to build the size and type of housing to serve the foster children in our area.  This is where I had the opportunity to meet Rob Mcylea and Mike Long of LifeHouse to build a fundraising video for the charity.

Meeting with the leaders of a non-profit is always inspiring because there is never a shortage of passion for the mission.  The experience is always educational as well, and as I listened to Rob outline the needs that LifeHouse is addressing I knew I had what I needed to build our video: STORY.

Together, we built a vision for a fundraising video that showed how LifeHouse is revolutionizing the foster care model in our area and how they plan to meet the need.  While personal testimonial from children and families would have been ideal, time constraints meant that we had to adapt to a single day shoot with Rob.  We worked together for natural delivery of our script elements on-camera and I leveraged stock video to complete the project.

We could have shortened the video and concentrated on facts and figures, but it is my belief that with a strong story demonstrating the need, we produced a stronger video with a much higher impact.

This is why I emphasize to my non-profit clients that we “tell the story” of impact in the lives of real people.  People connect with people, and by reaching out in this manner we bring the most attention to your message and cause.
